lyrics

Walking into cars

I got used to moving all of the time so I never settled in
Running into people that I’d lost to the ever changing winds
I got to smiling at the faces like I knew all the strangers on my way
A piece of broken glass still in my hand from falling yesterday

I’d disappear for hours in the city never saying where I’d be
Looking for connection in the street the red lights turning green
Talking to the person closest by and hanging on their ear
Searching for an answer to a question I’d been asking for a year

Crossing into traffic with my eyes closed just to tempt my fate
Sister Mary said that there was someone watching out for me
I don’t believe there’s something keeping tabs holding up my weight
Walking into cars with my detachment
Just to test my faith

I found myself one evening in a crowd coveting the room
A pretty girl was kneeling at my feet as I rambled out a tune
Coming up with verses of a song rolling off my tongue
Drawing in the people like a preacher feeding off the sun
I went weeks without resistance I was living in the moment of events
Feeling my existence was obtained by pure coincidence
Looking for the needle of the eye at what was happening
Though a grain of salt was needed I was drinking up a sea of circumstance

Crossing into traffic with my eyes closed just to test my faith
My sister Mary said there must be someone watching out for you
I don’t believe there’s anything keeping tabs holding up my weight
Walking into cars Walking into cars
Just to tempt my fate

about

Joe Hehir Cornwall, Ontario

I've been writing songs all of my life and taught myself to play piano, guitar, trumpet and harmonica. I used to think that music happened because of the instrument I played mainly the piano. Then I realized it all just comes from my head and it doesn't matter what instrument you play. You can be a virtuoso silver spoon player and not even know it. Just pick up some spoons and give it a try ... more
